Conspiracy: A Rachel Replacement?

Updated: Apr 2, 2020

Article by Rina Lederman ('20)

Welcome to the conspiracy theory column! This week is the first and probably most important conspiracy theory of the year, although I’m not sure that is an accurate classification as the topic is not a conspiracy, but really it is a straight fact. Sari Shakhman is Rachel Sragovicz. Not a reincarnation, not a doppelganger, just Rachel herself with a new name and age.

Even though evidence is not necessary, because this statement could be considered an aphorism, I do have several pieces of evidence to share with you. Similarity numero uno: they are both half Russian. Although I did not administer a DNA test, I will take their word for it as there was no incentive for either of them to lie about this.

Similarity numero dos: they dance exactly the same. And I mean EXACTLY the same. Ask Kirsten, Shani, or anyone who took dance with both Rachel and Sari, and they will agree that it is true. In fact, a conversation that took place between Kirsten and Shani at the beginning of this year went like this: *Sari walks into dance class* *Shani takes one glance at her without ever meeting her before* Shani to Kirsten: “So you got a replacement for Rachel?” Kirsten to Shani: “Yes.” In addition to their dance similarity in Torah High dance classes, Rachel and Sari both take Ballet classes outside of school.

Similarity numero tres: they look alike. I know this is subjective; however, I also know that I was not the only person who saw Sari from the back during the first week of school and thought Rachel had come to visit.

In conclusion, Rachel is more present in school than most of us are aware, and I am excited for Sari to take over JMUN in three years.
