Statistics That You'll Definitely Call "Bananas"

Article by a Kolot Community Member

Do you know how much ice cream you eat per year? How about how many of us are sufficiently active? How much footage is added to Youtube per minute? All of these random statistics have actually been calculated, albeit probably inaccurately.

All of these random statistics have actually been calculated, albeit probably inaccurately.

The average American eats nearly 13 pounds of ice cream per year. I think that Torah High's provision of ice cream on Rosh Chodesh and after Charidy has dramatically contributed to this mass consumption average. If the idea of ice cream causes you to salivate, know that you're adding to the average person being able to fill as many as 23 two-liter bottles with the amount of saliva produced in a month. Not to worry about our lack of nutrients, though. Americans are eating 4.2 billion avocados annually. After all those calories, you'd think we'd be exercising. In actuality, though, fewer than a quarter of American adults meet U.S. guidelines for physical activity, which is unfortunate as people who jog live almost six years longer than people who don't. Perhaps because we suck at moving, there are nearly 12,000 annual injuries related to TVs falling in the U.S.

Although we eat lots of avocado, known as brain food, Americans are not too bright. While an American high school graduate will have taken around 100 mandatory standardized tests since pre-kindergarten, more than 36 million U.S. adults cannot read above a third-grade level. We evidently don't know our history, as two out of five Americans can't name a single freedom protected by the First Amendment, and 71 percent of Americans name Hamilton as a president. Torah High students hopefully are a tad brighter than the average American, but are all evidently approaching death as sleeping less than seven hours per night reduces one's life expectancy.

In essence, we Americans are inactive, ice cream-filled, dumb, and going to die. Not to worry though: "Statistics are bananas" (Spoon) and are very subjective.
